Savings $$$
Cost$$$
Add 40% of your annual water bill too yearly lawn maintenance costs and put a dollar amount on your time spent dealing with grass. Take that total and multiply it by twenty. That is roughly the Dollar amount in savings for twenty years.

Turf & Xeriscape

Conversion of existing irrigation to a drip system will reduce wasted water and weeds. bringing drip hose to each individual plant helps the plant get exactly what it needs without any waste. Weed cloth and mulch areas without plants to eliminate future weeds and maintenance. Future plants can easily be added through weed cloth and tapping into drip system is a five minute job per plant after 5 minutes of training.
Drip Irrigation
Xeriscape is a less expensive option for grass replacement and a good choice for non traffic area's. There are many methods of xeriscaping and many options for ground cover including rock, mulch, rubber mulch, decomposed granite and bark. The most common option for cost and healthier plants is mulch. Grass is removed but typically far less soil is removed as area to be xeriscaped looks more aesthetically pleasing with mounding or a dry riverbed. In some instance's mounded artificial turf and xeriscape can be combined to look very nice. Plants in the xeriscape area cannot be turf related to qualify for rebate. Drought tolerant plants, succulents and a few nice tree's on a drip system is typical. Planting can sometimes bring cost up to and beyond cost of artificial grass. Depends on your tastes and how much planting is desired.
Padding can be added for increased safety and available in material that is 20% cooler than the standard.
Synthetic grass eliminates the hassle of maintenance, cost of water and all the issue's related to lawn care. The quality of material has increased in the last few years with many manufacturer's making very natural multi-colored material. The average household uses 40% to 70% of total water usage on grass. The current drought conditions and the fact that we live in a desert has led California to mandatory water reduction.
Cost breakdown is as follows. I will base cost on an average job of roughly 1000 square feet. Cost to remove existing grass and soil of 3 to 5 inches for new synthetic grass is $1.50 a square ft. ( tree roots can increase this cost) In instances where mounding and dry riverbeds are placed for either Synthetic grass or xeriscape less soil needs to be removed. This will reduce cost 20% to 75% depending on new design and job specifics. Cost of labor to remove and dump fees on soil are significant and is the reason for $1.50 a square ft. in cost. Synthetic grass has many grades and qualities. My idea of cost is based solely on the medium to higher end material. The plastic looking turf and turf that is too short is less expensive but will never look real. The higher quality material is the only way to go for real looking turf and its not much more. My cost is roughly $8 to $10 a square ft. including 3 to 5 inches of base material, weed barrier, bender board, seaming, staking and 1.5 lbs of infill per square ft. Rough cost total for 1000 square ft. job is $10000. Variables include which material you choose and amount of seaming and waste material. Typical waste is 15% to 20% depending on shape of area. Xeriscape requires less soil removal. 1000 square ft area would cost $.50 to a $1 a square ft. for removal if mounding is in the plan. Weed cloth throughout, Mulch throughout = $1000. So, to pull out grass, weed cloth and mulch roughly $2000. The cost to shape a riverbed, grade, add boulders, river rock, drainage, cap old sprinklers, add drip irrigation and plants and planting vary greatly . Call or e-mail for a free estimate.
