Dream Greens
1. Green surface holds shots and chips like a well manicured Country Club.
2. True lines with the putter time after time.
3. Putting surface will last at least 10 to 15 years and rough for 15 to 20 years.
4. The occasional tune up with brushing and sand is the only routine maintenance.
5. Green speeds and firmness are adjustable to owners desire.
6. Up to 15 year performance and wear warranty on putting surface and rough material.
Above are some of the greens I have built in the last few years. Most of the greens are in small yards. The smallest of yards still have three or four tee boxes and play just like the best of courses. These are all putting greens but all of their owners love the chipping. Most of my clients have small tournaments, course records and all the fun gambling games that happen at the real course. The Largest greens are 50ft by 50 ft with the same bunkers as your nicest country club. These two pictured are surrounded by real grass and have tee boxes built at 130 yards and 150 yards.
My intentions are to build mini golf courses with multiple tee boxes and a few pin placements. Greens as big as those at the Country Club designed after a famous hole that exists or a unique creation. Typical placement would be near the house or adjacent to a pool as it makes for a great view and keeps everyone in the same zone. This also allows for tee boxes matts on any flat patio areas permanently or ever changing. Subtle elevation and mounding throughout greens edge and bunkers. Green is typically sloped from back to front in relation to tee boxes. Hitting shots into a green sloped back to front creates areas of backboards and slope to enhance ball action. This also helps with drainage and creating some tough breaks. Tears are typically avoided as they are difficult to putt. ( May be an option to consider) Railroad ties and boulders make for an enhanced look. Also, Dry riverbeds running along lower edge between tee boxes and green with a crossing bridge made of stone. The options are limitless. The most important element is to have green feel like a natural part of the yard. It may flow into a athletic field or fit between some native trees. The yard itself and your desires determine the best direction.
The play ability of the synthetic material is outstanding. Greens can be sped up and firmed up, ( U.S. Open style) or made to be more user friendly. Crushed limestone in the bunkers. ( very white.) Grass bunkers if desired. The typical 800 to 1200 Square foot green with 3 or 4 holes is ideal. To many holes and it feels more like a practice putting green then a golf course. Three tee boxes well placed in yard equates to a nine or twelve hole course depending on number of pins. My client in a very small yard has two separate matts on his patio, 15 and 18 yard shots from different angles and one tee box tucked into a planter. He calls his course "Bushwood". Course record is eight under and he and his friends play it regularly. Again, design can be anything you desire and I would be happy to design your course and go over options in relation to your yard for nothing. Three dimensional renderings, grading plans, trip to your favorite course for some golf, no obligation or cost.
I have designed and built projects in the greater San Diego Area for the past 15 years. Transforming yards, pools and house's into functional works of art is my passion. (See gallery, all by my hands.) I have always gravitated toward the more challenging work as it drives me. My success is based on my creative strengths, conceptual design skills and relationships with clients. I am of the philosophy that anything is possible. You just got to see it, work out the flaws and accentuate the awesome. Outside the box is where true artistry begins.
This website will eventually contain you tube video's on builds I have coming up detailing step by step process. Possibly some short game instructional video's on a Signature tour green. I am hoping to eventually build 3 par executive courses with playable shredded mulch and xeriscape everywhere you shouldn't hit it. There are a number of nice greens being built by others at this time. Pictured below are some that I like. The green built like TPC Sawgrass is outstanding. A lot of detail in the rest of that picture, maybe too much. I am not a big fan of fringe unless there is enough apron or fairway rolling into green. Something about three artificial materials within a few feet looks wrong. I would rather see a bigger green then rough begins. The rough is very playable and it looks better in my opinion. Really the only opinion that matter's is you the client but I always try to help with vision. My joy comes from making your vision a reality.
Love to here from you,
Thanks
